Cisco Catalyst 3560-48PS EMI - Switch - 48 ports - EN, Fast EN - 10Base-T, 100Ba

The Cisco Catalyst 3560 Series switches is a line of fixed configuration, enterprise-class, IEEE 802.3af and Cisco prestandard Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches in Fast Ethernet configurations that provide availability, security, and quality of service (QoS) to enhance network operations. The Catalyst 3560 is an ideal access layer switch for small enterprise wiring closets or branch office environments that are using their LAN infrastructure for the deployment of new products and applications such as IP telephones, wireless access points, video surveillance, building management systems, and remote video kiosks. Customers can deploy network-wide intelligent services, such as advanced QoS, rate limiting, access control lists, multicast management, and high-performance IP routing - while maintaining the simplicity of traditional LAN switching. Embedded in the Catalyst 3560 is the Cisco Cluster Management Suite (CMS) Software, which allows users to simultaneously configure and troubleshoot multiple Cisco Catalyst desktop switches using a standard Web browser. Cisco CMS Software provides configuration wizards that greatly simplify the implementation of converged networks and intelligent network services. The Catalyst 3560 Series can provide a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for deployments that incorporate Cisco IP phones and Cisco Aironet wireless LAN access points, as well as any IEEE 802.3af-compliant end device. Power over Ethernet removes the need for wall power to each PoE-enabled device and eliminates the cost for additional electrical cabling that would otherwise be necessary in IP phone and wireless LAN deployments. Maximum power availability for a converged voice and data network is attainable when a Catalyst 3560 Switch is combined with the Cisco Redundant Power System 675 (RPS 675) for seamless protection against internal power supply failures and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system to safeguard against power outages.

Where Do You Start Looking For Computer Packages?

Finding computer packages is certainly not difficult in this year of 2006. Heck, where can't you find computer deals and computer packages? Check the local Best Buy, Circuit City, or Target if you don't believe me. They're everywhere you look. Now, that doesn't mean that all of them are great, wonderful and perfect. You have to know and understand what it is you're looking for first. The question I was asked a few years back when I purchased my computer was, "What do you want to be able to do with it?" This is exactly what you should be asking yourself before shopping for a new one. This way you won't snag one of the first cheap computer packages you see simply because it's inexpensive. You want to get what you need.

The first place I would search for computer packages and special deals is Best Buy. I like this particular store for some reason. It always tends to have what I'm looking for, and for a reasonable cost. That's great! After I have sorted through all the display models in Best Buy, I turn my efforts to the World-Wide-Web. Online it's a synch to sort through countless computer packages. Anything from Dell, to Sony, to Mac, to IBM, to HP, Gateway is available. All of them have their own websites. This is cool because you can hop on their websites and get all the info and pricing details. Then you can proceed with a Google search to see if someone else is selling them for less. And believe me, they always are. That's just the way the Internet works. You can also surf for refurbished computer packages on websites like Ebay. This is the perfect way to get your PC or Mac at a lower cost. A great site that should not be overlooked is Amazon.com. They have virtually everything.

So, are you currently in the market for computer packages? I should go ahead and recommend one for all of you out there who strive to find that inexpensive computer that's still brand new. Check out Dell's website. You can acquire a nice desktop computer for a very reasonable price. Try around 300 bucks for the entire sha-bang. Now that's reasonable when it comes to computer packages and awesome deals. That ideal set-up you're searching for is out there if you do the required research. A computer is a fairly major purchase. Take your time before buying.

The Computer-Friendly Resume

The Computer-Friendly Resume

The evolution of technology is changing the traditional methods for job searching and recruiting. More and more companies are now relying on computers to initiate the process of hiring and are filling their database with candidates with skills that are easily searchable. Traditionally, submitted resumes were first received and sorted by humans. What else, right? But now, for many firms, this step has been handed over to their computers.

To facilitate more efficient hiring, incoming resumes for some large firms are sent to a computerized applicant tracking system to be scanned, or read. The resumes are sorted, categorized and retrieved through data scanning technology and entered into the organizations computing network. Resumes must now be formatted and written in a way so that the initial viewer of the resume, a computer, can read it. The information contained in this article is a guide toward making your resume readable by these scanning systems. This type of resume is referred to as the scannable resume.

A scannable resume is more focused on the text, or keywords, in the document than the design. The layout is simplified so that distractions such as font or Internet links do not confuse the computer scanner. In order to convert your traditional resume into a scannable resume, follow these simple guidelines.

Use Arial or Helvetica as your font (10-14 point)
Take out all underlined, italicized or shadowed type
Eliminate pictures or Internet links
Do not include columns or tables
Print it on white or very light-colored paper
Use a high quality laser printer
Include an unfolded original on standard size paper, one sided, with black ink
Add a key-word qualifications summary

Be sure that you place your name and contact information at the top of the page. Scanners assume that the text at the top is your name and contact information. If you have more than one page for your resume then place your name and a page number on each additional page and attach them with a paper clip, do not use staples.

Even if the following resume characteristics apply specifically to your industry, you must eliminate them. These include columns, newspaper-style designs, landscape printing, and fancy fonts. Scanning system abilities differ from company to company so its difficult to set boundaries. Some are able to read just about anything and others are confused by the smallest detail. So if you are unaware of the limitations of the system then play it safe and follow the simplest guidelines.

It is not a good idea to fax your resume to the employer. Faxing can reduce the clarity of the text. Unless the employer uses OCR-capable equipment, then avoid faxing. If you are not certain of what equipment they use then send a hard copy in the mail or send an ASCII version by e-mail.

It may seem boring to simplify your resume, but at least it will be easily searchable and hopefully placed in the firms database to be read. You do not want to take the chance of having your resume thrown out due to a scanning problem. We can only hope that as technology advances the scannable resume will not be so limited!

Spray-On Computers?

Yes, you read right and I typed right. Scottish scientists (do they all have Sean Connery accents? That would be very cool. They also invented golf!) have done it again, this time in the world of technology and health care. They call it "speckled computing," and it happens to be some of the most advanced tech in the world.

Entirely self-powered and self-networking, they are digital "specks" (matchstick head-sized) that are sprayed on to patients in order to collect huge amounts of important data.

Spraying them directly onto a person creates the ability to carry out different tests at the same time, for example muscle movement and pulse rate. This allows a complete picture of the patient's condition to be built up quickly.

According to Damal Arvind, leading speckled computing professor and director of the Scottish consortium,

"This is the new class of computing: devices which can sense and process the data they receive. They also have a radio so they can network and there's a battery in there as well, so they are entirely self-powered.

"You can do lots of interesting things with this technology. We are seeing this kind of technology in the Nintendo Wii and this is a very, very primitive form of what we will be demonstrating on Friday."

Here we have another step in the direction of nano-sized, networked computers that can roam about in the human body, fixing things and improving things and augmenting other things. The new world is coming.

Systems Administration Education in the Modern Computer Age

No field has witnessed more advancement in the last decade than information technology. With the continual onset of technological breakthroughs, change seems to be the only constant in the vast system of hardware and software that constitutes the modern computer age. The boom in technology has accelerated to such a rapid pace that administrators of database systems are often mired in the wasteland of yesterday's systems analysis while trying to incorporate the inevitable changes of tomorrow.
The educational community has been historically slow to react to changes in the instructional methods by which systems administrators are taught. Now, however, many institutions of higher learning are taking an all encompassing approach to information technology related training by focusing less on the actual protocols in current use and more on the theory that all technological advancements share. The end result seems to be an increased capacity for recent IT degree program graduates to understand the fundamental relationships between old and new technology. This new understanding has allowed many newly appointed systems administration professionals to flourish where their predecessors have failed. As is the case in almost any field of employment, adaptability is the key to survival.
Institutions who offer distance learning programs, in particular, appear to be at the forefront of the new instructional methodologies that are turning out skilled and highly sought after graduates. Perhaps the very nature of online learning has hastened the transition from teaching industry standard curriculum to instruction on the fundamentals of modern IT systems. As online degree programs update their course materials more frequently than their campus based counterparts on average, it may well be economics that has fueled the fires of change. In all likelihood, distance learning institutions have long ago realized that trying to incorporate the myriad of changes to modern IT infrastructures into their curriculum is not only impossible, but a waste of time as well. Those who learn what is current will only have their knowledge become obsolete within a few years, while those who understand the base elements and grasp the concepts which function as the building blocks of systems technology will succeed. The ultimate beneficiary of these curriculum changes will be the students whose knowledge is still viable long after the technology of today is no longer in use.
